President Trump commuted the prison sentence for the scandal-plagued ex-governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich, who tried to sell Obama’s vacated Senate seat and at the same time trying to extort a children hospital as well.

Trump also pardoned former New York Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik, who pleaded guilty in 2009 to felony tax fraud and lying to the government.

“We have commuted the sentence of Rod Blagojevich,” Trump told reporters on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. “I don’t know him very well. I’ve met him a couple times. He was on for a short while on ‘The Apprentice’ years ago. He seemed like a very nice person. Don’t know him, but he served eight years in jail with a long time to go.”

President Trump has worked on getting Blagojevich’s sentence commuted for some time now.

“I thought he was treated unbelievably unfairly; he was given close to 18 years in prison,” Trump, a Republican, said. “And a lot of people thought it was unfair, like a lot of other things — and it was the same gang, the Comey gang and all these sleazebags that did it.”
