The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of their most successful season in 25 years. The Chiefs are so close to finally capturing that ever-so-elusive world championship. Kansas City finally has its own franchise Quarterback and has a rejuvenated fan-base.
The Chiefs came within an off-sides penalty or coin toss away from making the Superbowl for the first time in nearly 50 years.
Defense is obviously the biggest need for Kansas City as they are looking to completely overhaul of the league’s most vile defenses. While that plan is sound, the Chiefs should also look at giving Patrick Mahomes as many weapons as possible.
The Chiefs are finally in position where they can truly believe in their ability to win a championship. This also means that they have to think outside of the box and find ways to improve their own team, while stopping other teams, such as the Patriots from improving.
This means bringing talent that other teams are weary of and adding guys who may or may not be team first players.
Obviously, any good team has great continuity between ownership, front office, and especially the players. However, great teams must take on players that could be considered difficult to work with.
An example of this is the Rams acquisition of Aqib Talib, Marcus Peters and Ndamukong Suh. The Patriots also have taken risks on players that are question marks during the season, with the most recent example being Josh Gordon.
This is why the Chiefs should look to acquire talent that other teams are ready to move on from. This is why the Chiefs should trade for Antonio Brown.
Not only to for the talent, but to keep him away other teams in the AFC, such as Colts, Titans, and especially the Patriots.
Brown has been one of the top 5 receivers over the last 6 or 7 years, paring that talent with Tyreek Hill and Antonio Brown could make for a lethal offensive threat.
Yes, the Chiefs signed Sammy Watkins to a large contract and they still have to pay some of their young players. However, the addition of Brown could give the Chiefs the ability to go all defense in the draft. A trade improves their offense and allows them to focus solely on a youth movement for this much maligned defense.
The Steelers are unlikely to trade Antonio Brown to a team in AFC, as they would be directly improving teams in their own conference. This and the inevitability of having to pay some of the other young players should not stop the Chiefs from going all in.
If the price is feasible, the Chiefs should attempt to acquire Antonio Brown. The Chiefs finally have the hard part solved, they have their Quarterback and they enough assets.
They should do everything to possible to take full advantage of their window over the next year or two.
