Let’s get to the headlines we missed this week and what we can expect to happen as Wednesdays fee agency opens up.
NFL
Kwon Alexander will leave the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and head to San Francisco on a four-year, $54M deal with $27M guaranteed. Kwon Alexander’s $13.5 million average annual salaries would be the most in the NFL among inside linebackers in history.
Landon Collins’ 6 years $84M deal with the Redskins makes him the highest avgerage paid safety in football. He grabs $45M guaranteed over the next three seasons in Washington making $14 million a year.
The Rams have re-signed pass-rusher Dante Fowler Jr., it’s a 1-year deal for Fowler and the Rams. He’ll be back at it making a nice $14 million.
Former Texans’ S Tyrann Mathieu intends to sign a three-year, $42 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, which is a huge pickup for the Chiefs considering their defense was 31st in the league last year and still made it to AFC Championship.
Wide Receiver Adam Humphries signed with the Titans. He is coming off a standout season with the Buccaneers, Hunpries had career-highs in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He finished his fourth season with 76 catches, 816 yards and five touchdowns. Humphries’ contract with the Titans is to be around $36 million over four years.
Colts agreed to a 1-year deal with WR Devin Funchess worth up to $13 million. He had 44 receptions & 4 TD’s for the Panthers last season.
The Lions are expected to sign former Patriot and pass-rusher Trey Flowers. It’s a 5-year deal. Should be more than $16M or $17M.
Chiefs are released four-time Pro-Bowl LB Justin Houston. They had tried to trade him, but no one was willing to pick up the $15.25 million base salary that was due this season. Houston is now a free agent. In eight season Houston racked up 377 tackles and 78.5 sacks.
Eagles send the 6th-rd pick in 2019 to Tampa and get back a 7th in 2020 along with WR DeSean Jackson. Jackson will get $13 million guaranteed on restructuring and $18 million the first 2 years and $15 million in total guarantees.
Bills have agreed with Frank Gore on a 1-year, $2 million deal. Bills already had the NFL’s oldest backfield with 30-year-old LeSean McCoy and 30-year-old Chris Ivory atop the depth chart. Now they’re bringing in Frank Gore, who turns 36 in May. Beat the doubters.
Terrell Suggs informed the Ravens he will be moving on to another club. Some of his teammates have mentioned Arizona as a possible landing spot or let’s hope the CHIEFS?. Suggs has spent 16 years with the Ravens.
Jets have now agreed with WR Jamison Crowder on a three-year, $28.5 million deal with $17 million fully guaranteed. Adam Gase created some big plays out of Albert Wilson and Jakeem Grant last season, throw in Jamison Crowder in New York and it could get very interesting.
Nick Foles, the former Eagles backup quarterback who was the Super Bowl MVP in 2018, is now set to make more than $80M in Jacksonville. Move your big ass over Bortles its time to win a Championship.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have placed Ryan Shazier on the reserve/physically unable to perform list for 2019 and tolled his contract. The linebacker hasn’t played since suffering a serious spinal injury during a 2017 game against the Bengals that left him unable to walk. I think it’s the right thing to do.
Sheldon Richardson took a 1-year deal with the Vikings last year, he’ll now cash in with a 3-year deal with the Browns. The Steelers and the Ravens are looking to be on troubles water as a team but Browns are actually looking to be a legit team and the age of Baker Mayfield be upon us in this division.
Former Ravens LB CJ Mosley is expected to sign with the Jets on a massive 5-year, an $85M deal worth $51M guaranteed. That’s $17M per year. Either Baltimore has no money???, no plans, Harbaugh is the problem or its the seafood because something is awfully fishy with the Ravens losing so much talent.
The Steelers are dealing Antonio Brown to the Raiders in exchange for a third round pick and a fifth-round pick in this 2019 draft. Brown will also get a reworked contract that makes him the NFL’s highest paid WR.
Rams’ franchise safety Lamarcus Joyner plans to sign a four-year deal with the Oakland Raiders making their secondary look pretty damn good with CB Gareon Conley, S Karl Joseph, S Lamarcus Joyner, CB Daryl Worley.
Odell Beckham Jr. traded to Cleveland for 1st and 3rd round draft picks along with A Jabril Peppers for trade transaction.
