Patrick Mahomes is not only the presumptive MVP of the 2018 NFL season, but he is also in the process of becoming the new face of the NFL. For the last ten years, the NFL has counted on Quarterbacks such as Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers to be the league’s most recognizable faces. Peyton Manning retired after the 2015 season, Brady is is in the twilight of his career, and Rodgers faces uncertainty after suffering multiple injuries along with a head coach being fired.
This means that the NFL must new players to market their league, specifically a player who can be in all of the commercials and is advertiser-friendly.
This player must fit two criteria:

  1. Must be a QB
  2. Has to be a top 2 or 3 QB

This player is Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes
Patrick Mahomes has played the position as well as any quarterback in the NFL history, with his season rivaling Tom Brady’s 2007 season and Peyton Manning’s 2013 season. Mahomes is the third QB to throw for 50 TDs in a season (Brady-2007, Manning-2013) and only the second QB to throw for 50 TDs along with 5000 passing yards (Manning).

With older quarterbacks such a Brady, Brees, Rivers, Rodgers, and Roethlisberger, the NFL is looking toward Deshaun Watson, Jared Goff, Carson Wentz, and Baker Mayfield as it’s next generation of elite quarterbacks. Mahomes as of no is at the head of the class of young QBs, which means that you’re going to see a ton of him over the next decade.
Whether it’s ketchup, cereal, cars or other NFL sponsors, Mahomes is going to be the main focus of the NFL’s marketing strategy as they transition to a new generation of quarterbacks.
And this new generation is being led by Patrick Mahomes.
