President Trump seems to have distanced himself from the recent controversial Alabama abortion law that was passed nearly banning all abortions in the state. Many Republicans have been dramatically against this. Missouri and Georgia recently made their own restrictive legislation on abortions this week as well.

Trump’s comments come days after Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed a near-total abortion ban bill that makes it a felony for a doctor to perform or attempt an abortion during any stage of pregnancy. Alabama now the nation’s most restrictive law on the procedure. Unlike other laws restricting abortion, the Alabama law does not make any exceptions for tape or incest.

President Trump strongly came out against Virginia and New York that would allow women to terminate nonviable pregnancies after 24 weeks. Trump is strongly against this lack of exceptions for abortions.

I think it’s evident what the number one issue going into the 2020 election will be without a doubt. With abortion laws dividing the country, and right now dividing the Republicans from within on whether there is too much overreach, the Democrats are taking a closer look to see what they can capitalize on against Trump.
