On Friday, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed into law a bill that mandates the contributions of LGBTQ people be taught in public schools. Representative Anna Moeller introduced House Bill 246 to amend the school code to add a more inclusive history curriculum.

The bill passed the Senate and House earlier this year and is scheduled to go into effect in July 2020. The bill also states that all textbooks “authorized to be purchased must include the roles and contributions of all people protected under the Illinois Human Rights Act and must be non-discriminatory as to any of the characteristics under the Act.”

Glance

Iā€™m a little confused, if a person of any orientation does something historic why should their sexual orientation matter? Isn’t that the point of teaching equality? People want to be seen as people? Why would the school system need to focus on if they were LGBTQ? When they do teach it will they speak on the good and bad people of LGBTQ? That’s history, it’s pretty and it’s pretty damn ugly, that’s the truth.

If public schools want to teach equal rights and be progressive they would treat people fairly and realize the constitution already guarantees individuals rights, not groups. That’s disregarding the rights the constitution provides us. One argument would be well the tenth amendment allows the states to do their own thing, true, but it should never infringe on the rights of its government, it’s people.

This may sound hypocritical after my last few points but if they want to do this where is Mexican history month? Italian? Asian? They care so much right?

Solution

America has had people who have ignored those rights so they can place their own bias truth about individuals who they deemed suitable in helping this country while ignoring others based on race and cultural biases trough many cruel ways.

Change the curriculum, the history books to truthful historical facts where inclusion is evident and help make this country prosper regardless of what race, sex or orientation they are. Only then will these things not matter. Teach the children whose shoulders they’ve been standing on by telling them to treat people right and treat people better and all the other stuff is an afterthought. The message should be hypothetically speaking he/she saved millions of lives by creating something and they just so happen to be a whatever it is people are focusing on now.

Not that race and culture and love for oneself isn’t needed it’s extremely needed but it’s an afterthought when people are good and kind and a person can see you for who you are instead of what people label you as. Teach these children about Christ at home, but never manipulate his words to your wrongdoings and then justify those acts. Things like that is why the world is the way it is or had been.

I think we are in a society now where we acknowledge peoples contributions to this country, at least I think on a grander scale we do. People need inspiration sure, but mandating people to do so isn’t right. Just teach, its education.
