An investigation by the Houston Chronicle and the San Antonio Express-News revealed horrific findings that would sadly match those of the Catholic church. Their findings found since 1998, roughly 380 Southern Baptist church leaders and volunteers have faced allegations of sexual misconduct. They left behind more than 700 victims, the youngest victim being 3 years old. The report details how the offenders resisted reform while those who faced abuse were forced to suffer in silence.
The newspapers also reported, “since 2008, when leaders rejected reforms meant to curb sexual abuse, 250+ people who worked or volunteered in Southern Baptist churches have been charged with sex crimes. Nearly all were convicted, took plea deals or have pending cases.”
As the Houston Chronicle points out more than 250 church leaders have been convicted, that’s out of 380, that’s progress. Interestingly most of the accused hailed from the state of Texas. Many of the victims have had drug problems and it led them to overdose, and sadly many have died due to several different types of suicide. According to the Houston Chronicle, “many of the victims were adolescents who were molested, solicited, exposed to pornography, photographed nude or repeatedly raped by youth pastors.”
There are 47,000 self-regulated Southern Baptist Churches that have no oversight, the church does not track or follow any of these incidents. Something has to change now, evil is here and it’s everywhere, it’s been here. Each church should conduct a thorough background check of all its employees & volunteers. This will cut down dramatically on predators I believe but also conduct a family session with another adult, one written and one verbal. In my opinion, the first policy that should’ve been mandated for this church and churches everywhere is there should never be one adult left with a single child, this prevents these horrific acts, and it’s also good for the falsely accused. It protects both parties considering most of the churchgoers aren’t like the ones who destroyed the victims in this article.
The evil that’s transpired in establishments specifically in churches or houses of God is what has created a major divide intervening with peoples faith in Jesus Christ. This is fuel for atheists and Satanists to claim and make arguments against God. Many have used arguments similar to “if God is so loving and caring why would he ever allow this evil to be done to innocent good people, especially children?” People forget about free will and evil, and if evil exists it comes from the Devil.
Americans should be grateful for journalists like these. These men and women should be awarded the Pulitzer Prize and we thank you for everything you’ve done so far. I know it’s just the beginning but progress has been made. Now it’s time for the deep state to fall and face their makers for the same crimes they have committed.
