Trey Gowdy who in my opinion is one of the most credible people in Washington has been tapped as outside counsel to President Trump as House impeachment inquiry grows and goes further.
According to several news outlets Gowdy is expected to advise the White House behind the scenes and appear on TV to advocate on behalf of the president. Gowdy will be able to offer President Trump another opinion on where legal theory meets political reality.
Gowdy, of South Carolina, led House investigation of terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya. He did not seek reelection last year to the seat he had held for eight years. Gowdy later chaired the House Oversight Committee after the Benghazi panel disbanded.
“Whatever skills I may have are better utilized in a courtroom than in Congress, and I enjoy our justice system more than our political system,”
Trey Gowdy
Let’s hope he can deliver more on his skills as a lawyer than he did handling the Benghazi debacle that didn’t see any success for those of us who knew there was more.
Where are we at with Impeachment?
As of right now, the White House has denied any further assistance in what they are calling an “illegitimate” impeachment process.
In a letter from the White House counsel to democratic leaders of the house they have called their want for impeachment a “manner that violates fundamental fairness and constitutionally mandated due process’” and “lacks any legitimate constitutional foundation’” or “pretense of fairness.”
Gowdy has also recommended that Adam Schiff should be called as a “fact witness” for his potential prior knowledge of the call.
Gowdy has continuously called out Schiff for his false characterizations of the phone call that took place between the president and Ukraine along with his possible knowledge of the whistleblower before the complaint was made official.
Let’s get the job done and make sure the democrats tale another loss they deserve.
