The Pentagon has confirmed Iran has launched “dozens” of ballistic missiles against US military and coalition forces in Iraq. State TV said the operation’s name was “Martyr Soleimani”. It said the Guard’s aerospace division, which controls Iran’s missile program, launched the attack. President Trump has been made aware of the attacks.

The US had vowed a quick and overwhelming response to any Iranian attacks. Over the past week, the Pentagon deployed about 3500 soldiers from the 82nd Airborne to Kuwait and another three Navy ships with about 2200 Marines to the Persian Gulf region.

“We are working on initial battle damage assessments,” Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in statement, adding that the Iraq bases targeted were at Ain Asad air base and another in Irbil.

Iranian State TV described it early on Wednesday as Tehran’s revenge operation over the killing of Revolutionary Guard General Qassem Soleimani, whose funeral on Tuesday in his hometown of Kerman prompted angry calls to avenge his death.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard then warned the US and its regional allies against retaliating over the missile attack in Iraq. The Guard issued the warning via a statement carried by Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency. “We are warning all American allies, who gave their bases to its terrorist army, that any territory that is the starting point of aggressive acts against Iran will be targeted,” the Guard said. It also threatened Israel.

Trump’s fire and fury comments will have meaning come later tonight I guarantee it.
