Elon Musk, the billionaire founder of SpaceX, CEO of Tesla, dogecoin enthusiast, and ‘SNL’ host revealed last night he has Asperger’s.
He announced the news at the beginning of his monologue, speaking with an almost somber tone. Musk revealed he’s the first “Saturday Night Live” host with Asperger Syndrome.
According to healthline.com, Asperger’s syndrome is one of a group of neurological disorders known as autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). AS is considered to be on the mild end of the spectrum.
Whether you like Elon musk or not, making a public announcement of this magnitude that’s so personal about something so real is brave.
Other people with Asperger’s should be happy that somebody so successful who’s constantly in the public eye is bringing attention to the syndrome considering the science on it or the people writing on it are fairly new to it, at least that’s how I see it.
Elon’s reveal should drive enough attention and maybe some funding to help the science and public get a better grasp around a very misunderstood condition.
