President Trump promised to cure AIDS and childhood cancer at his rally last night. “We will be ending the AIDS epidemic shortly in America and curing childhood cancer very shortly.” Something Trump eluded to in his previous state of the union.

Pediatric Cancer

Cure rates for pediatric cancers are already at 80 percent, as many health organizations tout the success because of the tremendous progress that’s been made with childhood leukemia. However the same cannot be said for other pediatric cancers, the cure rates haven’t changed in 20 years according to some data.

Trump said in the State of the Union in February that he would set aside $500 million for research into pediatric cancer over 10 years, which would be an increase in federal spending.

Trump’s Aids Solution

In his State of the Union address in January, the goal by the administration was to cut new HIV infections by 75% in five years and then by 90% in 10 years. The president proposed spending $291 million to kick off the initiative.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, who provided details of the initiative after Trump’s announcement, said the administration will target viral hot spots by providing local groups more resources, using data to track the spread of the disease and creating local task forces to bolster prevention and treatment.

Protestors

He was also heckled throughout the night having around 5 protesters interrupt him. There is a prerecorded announcement repeated several times before rallies, instructing supporters to not touch or harm protesters and to allow law enforcement to deal with them. Regardless we use to have a right to protest and now we can’t, that’s one thing about Trump I don’t like is his dismissiveness if you don’t agree.

Under the Obama administration, “free speech zones” have been highly controversial due to the Secret Service and others being able to suppress lawful protest by relegating it to particular locations at a public event.

Do you believe under Trump a cure for Aids & Cancer will happen? 1 Aids

These “free speech zones” have been frequently used to target certain viewpoints and to keep protesters away from the cameras. But, I can understand why they escort them out to maintain some type of decorum sp nothing goes haywire.

I’m hoping that the President’s administration can deliver on their promises of curing AIDS and cancer because we still need unity and at the end of the day we as an everyman, are American citizens.
