BREAKING NEWS: Sweden Files to Detain Assange Over old Rape Allegation
May 20, 2019
The Swedish Prosecution Authority says it has filed a request for Julian Assange to be detained in his absence in relation to an investigation into a rape allegation made against the WikiLeaks founder.
If the court approves that he be arrested in absentia, the prosecutor will then go ahead with a European Arrest Order where his extradition to Sweden will be requested. Court hearings over arrest could come within a few days.
Is Julian Assange guilty of a crime?
The decision in Sweden to arrest Assange absentia is not made by the prosecutor alone but must go through a court. So much speculation out there that these decisions about Assange are made “in secret” and by individuals, but we know they are we aren’t stupid.
The British courts will have to rule on the Swedish and US extradition requests. Sajid Javid, the UK home secretary, will have the final say on which takes precedence. A British judge has given the US government a deadline of 12 June to outline its case against Assange.
On another note today Julian Assange’s belongings from his time living in the Ecuadorian embassy in London will be handed over to US prosecutors, WikiLeaks has claimed. The odds are starting to stack up against Assange but I know he still has an Ace in the Hole.
