Well, we just got finished hearing Michael Cohen testifying under oath in front of Congress. We have heard of this story before. Much of what Cohen is saying is already being disputed.
First, just let me say that one would expect and hope that more Republicans would ask legitimate questions containing more substantive questions to gain facts & information relevant to the situation rather than waste time impugning Cohen. But what does all of congress do they make things partisan where there allegiance is to themselsves and thats unfair to constitution that they are obligated to defend.
Cohen testified that Roger Stone had a discussion with Julian Assange informing them that Wikileaks was going to release a massive dump of emails on the Clinton campaign. He also testified that president Trump was aware of the dump. Roger Stone released a text soon after the first part of hearing saying that Michael Cohen’s testimony is “not true.” Stone is under a gag order not to talk about his case, Mueller’s probe, or any participants.
. says he doesn’t think Trump knew what the contents of the WikiLeaks email dump would be
Wikileaks for that fact released a tweet defending Julian Assange and claiming Cohens accusation of Roger Stone speaking with Julian Assange was a lie and he “never” had a call with stone.
Cohen was then asked about trumps tactics. When pressed by Democratic Rep. Jackie Speier about how many times he threatened people at Trump’s request, Cohen settles on an estimate of more than 500 times. He says this includes reporters writing negative stories, etc.
Cohen says he fears for his safety because of Trump’s ability to incite tens of millions of people. Michael Cohen spoke of his fear of retribution from President Trump or people who support him: “It’s why I don’t walk down the street with my wife or my children.”
Trump follows Cosa Nostra mentality in subliminal answers without giving them apparently. “He doesn’t give you questions, he doesn’t give you orders, he speaks in code, and I understand the code because I’ve been around him for a decade.” Others who try defending Trump end up confirming this when they say “that’s just how he talks.”
Bitter Former Employee?
“This destruction of our civility is out of control,” Cohen says of Trump…he’s sending out the message that this is his country, he’s becoming an autocrat.” yet if he has morals where were his morals before he got caught? He went on to say “Everybody’s job at the Trump Organization is to protect Mr. Trump,”
How could the house committee believe a proven liar? In November 2018, Cohen was charged for the special counsel’s office of lying to Congress about discussions involving a proposed Trump Tower in Moscow had extended into ‘16 campaign. U.S. District Judge sentenced Cohen to 36 months in prison.
Rep. Mark Meadows pressed Michael Cohen for “proof” of any racist remarks privately expressed by President Trump.
“Do you have tape recordings of those conversations?… You’ve taped everybody else!”
“I’ve talked to the president over 300 times,” Rep. Mark Meadows says. “I’ve not heard one time a racist comment out of his mouth in private.”
Then Cohen’s deflection to save face was hilarious, “Before going further, I want to apologize to each of you and to Congress as a whole. The last time I appeared before Congress, I came to protect Mr. Trump. Today, I’m here, to tell the truth about Mr. Trump.” No sir you’re trying to save your own ass by burying everyone else when the lies you’re telling don’t even corroborate with the information you’ve told the Robert Mueller.
A man with a terrible character characterized President Trump in saying “I am ashamed because I know what Mr. Trump is. He is a racist. He is a conman. He is a cheat.”
Trump Camp Response
Trump’s 2020 campaign issued a statement calling Michael Cohen “a felon, a disbarred lawyer, and a convicted perjurer.”
Still to Come
When Michael Cohen’s testimony resumes, five Democrats are left who haven’t asked questions according to CNN, here is the list:
